and i turn

stream our new single "and i turn" and its b-side track, "still" now on all platforms! we're really excited about this release, we've put loads of work into these songs and we hope you enjoy them!

bloom is an American indie rock band formed in Manhattan, KS in 2019. our music features contemplative songwriting brought to life by soaring, atmospheric guitars and keyboards and colorful rhythms (adjectives am I right?), and strives, above all else, to be genuine.

we first conceptualized the band while guitarist/vocalist nick holmes (that’s me, I write the bios) was giving guitar lessons to guitarist aimee trojcak. we spoke the sacred words, revered by all musicians: “dude, we should start a band,” and bloom was born. drummer/keyboardist james godfrey, bassist ian koehler, and backing vocalist kim salazar round out the band's lineup. we managed to track down an unused music room in Nichols Hall on the Kansas State University campus, where they let us practice at night. it was indescribably cramped. we started out playing cover songs by artists like Weezer and The White Stripes, which was great fun and gave us the itch to create, so we started to work on our own original material, and we soon recorded a demo of our first song, “shudder.”

as it turned out, late 2019 happens to have been possibly the worst time in the last century to start a band, and though we got off to a strong start, forced hiatuses due to quarantines, struggles to find a consistent practice space, and health issues, kept us down for much of 2020 and parts of 2021. but thanks to our fighting spirit (read: intense boredom and cabin fever caused by agonizingly prolonged social isolation), we made it through and got back together just as soon as we could.

with the dawning of 2022 we got the feeling for the first time that we really had our feet under us. we gained a consistently available and comfortable practice space in my basement, which we have now been able to convert into a recording studio. we finally have a home.

and it’s there we recorded our first single, “star-crossed.”

we’re just getting started.
